Does anyone know of a way to transfer a domain from Bluehost.com to something like godaddy or names.com?

    Suziclue,

To better understand the process of a domain name transfer, take a look at this article in the Go Daddy Help Center:

    http://help.godaddy.com/article/788

Transferring a domain name involves first purchasing a transfer from your preferred registrar. When you order a transfer through Go Daddy, an email is sent to the administrative contact with special codes that then need to be entered at Go Daddy. This is required in order to demonstrate that you have the authority to manage the domain name. There is an article in our Help Center that walks you through this authorization process:

    http://help.godaddy.com/article/1592

You'll see that an "authorization code" is a separate code that is also needed in order to complete the transfer. This is a code you get from your current registrar and may be called an "EPP code". Check your registrar's website or support center for additional information on acquiring this code and making other changes necessary to transfer the domain name.

If you need any more help, please contact Go Daddy support directly - 480.505.8877 or support@godaddy.com.

    The standard steps are below:

    - Contact Yahoo to unblock your domain name and ask them for the domain EPP key
    - Walk to the new registrar's website and place the transfer order.
    - While placing the order, you will be asked for the EPP key
    - You will also need to make the payment for the domain renewal as per new registrar's renewal price
    - Once the order has been placed, you will receive emails regarding to authorizing the transfer.
    - Once these emails are approved, your domain will be transferred to the new registrar within 7 business days.
    - After the transfer, 1 year will be added to the current expiration date of the domain.

the transfer process is almost standard everywhere..you need to go to the gaining registrars website and place a transfer domain request, give the EPP/Domain Secret and pay for the domain transfer..once this is done, you need to wait for 5-7 days for the process to complete..
