I purchased a domain trhough some web designer two years back. Now I want to pay for the domain myself and renew it. As that person is demanding too much money. How to find out where was the domain purchased from and how to renew it? Is there some password or something?
who is database can tell you who is the registrar of the domain? There are many websites from where you can access that database - whois.net, who.is; google it for more! EPP (a kind of password or code) is required for transferring of domain. You can ask your web designer to give you the EPP of domain, then order a transfer domain from anywhere you wish to buy.
If the webmaster is a domain reseller then it may take a bit more work to wrestle it away from their control. They would need to unlock the domain and give you the EPP codes required for transfer. You can run a WHOIS on the domain to find a registrar and contact them, but they may refer you to your webmaster since they are in control.
You just need to get domain authorization code from him . if he can provide then you can renew or transfer. if he don't give you . then you have to leave for expired this domain , once expire renew it .
instead of going with transfer which is a longer process, you may choose to create own account at the same domain registrar and request your webdesigner to "push" your domain into your account. When it is in your account you can control it such as renew, transfer to different registrar, or point it to a different hosting.
