My nephew was killed lastnight. Some of the details are listed here: http://www.koco.com/news/13819962/detail.html We are all really upset as we have been a close family. My nephew was one of my daughters best friends as they were about the same age. I want to give our side of the story as some of the details listed in the news article/video are not fully correct: Some of the details are not correct. Essentially, I will tell you it from my dad's side of the story. My dad is a great grandfather. One of his favorite things to do was to take his two grandsons that lived nearby down to his pond to feed the fish and/or do some fishing. Lastnight my Grandpa and my dad picked up Austin and Dalton, my two nephews 5 years old and 3 years old, to go fishing at the pond. It was roughly 8:00PM and they weren't going to be down there very long. They were sitting on a small boat dock fishing when my dad saw a gunshot hit the water about 4 ft in front of the dock. He hollared "someone is shooting out here!". They heard the gunshot go off as well, another about 4 or 5 seconds after had struck my nephew, Austin, in the back of the head. My dad did not realize it at first, he turned around quickly and saw Austin laying face-down on the dock. He scooped him up thinking this was cold-blooded murder along with my grandpa and Dalton and put him in a "mule" that my dad usually takes them down to the pond on. They drove up to my sisters home (Austin's home) where she was mowing outside. My brother-in-law was working outside in the shop on a car. They both saw that he was uncontious and pretty much lost it right there in their front yard. The police officer who allegedly was trying to shoot a snake overheard the commotion and ran to help only witness what he had caused. Although we only live about 10 minutes from a hospital they wanted to try to medi-flight him to a large Oklahoma City hospital. Unfortunately on the way there his pulse lowered and they realized that the shot to the head was fatal. My dad is an attorney, the cops and city know him. They are already trying to cover up the situation by getting the city attorney involved. My dad is extremely upset and angry with the cop who is responsible. I believe my dad wants to prosicute for his negligence. We will have to wait and see until the situation calms down.
