Cant seem to get a steady flow of traffic at my site. It jumps way to often, usually from 100 then down a measly 20..What are some good techniques to get better traffic, that you dont have to pay for..I update content very often, almost every other day I post something...

I'm a big fan of article marketing. Write a couple of 500 - 700 word articles and submit them to the article directories. It should steadily increase your traffic over time.

Reciprocal link is good way to generate traffic by direct traffic and search engines. This method is tedious but effective.

Make your site SE friendly and try to rank high in the SERPs . 50% - 80% of the Web site traffic comes from search engines.
Building your links can also help improve traffic. :)

Try organic search engine traffic by increasing your site's SERP. You can get more traffic from search engines because most of the traffic comes from their searches.

Update regularly, stay current, try to mix it up from what other blogs are doing - before you know it one or two stories get ranked high and traffic rolls in. When Antonella Barba's pictures came out I ended up as a top 3 rank in google and went from 1200 unique to over 25000 unique over night...now i hover around 3000 - but one good story gained me some loyal followers. It takes time so be patient.

Does the content on your main page change? Does the content contain stuff that might be popular one day and not popular the next such as sports events or TV shows?
