traffic tracker giving me conflicting information...

Well I came home today and checked traffic stats, to see that I'm being found in search engines! (very exciting for me since this is my first site...) but when I google for my url, nothing shows up. It seems like I'm not even indexed, yet statcounter is giving me a bunch of keywords that people are finding me under...

Anyone explain this? Is this the 'google dance' I hear about so often?

I think this has nothing to do with Google Dance. Keywords will appear on web analytics reports as referrals no matter how way below they show up on search results.

Some web analytics software define specific search engines where keyword referrals are recorded (called organic in Google Analytics). Obvious examples are Yahoo!, Google and MSN. All the rest are classified as web site referrals.

In Google Analytics for example, I came across reports classified as referrals but when I checked what URL referred me, it is incomplete and the filename shown is search.php or something related to it. Examples are CNN.com, Dell.com or any site that has search forms (even if they use Google search).
