I am looking for the best way to track my traffic stats, like give me what sites the came from and what terms they may have typed into the search engines. I have aw stats and it shows this somewhat but its not very deep. Anybody have something better?

Google Analytics is pretty nice. You can also use awstats on your server! Actually most of the service provider are by default enabling awstats!

I use Google Analytics + Awstats (or hosting's default stats program).

I guess the problem is not AWStats, but the way it has been setup for your site.

I like Google Analytics and Statcounter which both provide in depth traffic stats.

The main advantage that statcounter has over google analytics is that it's in real time.
other alternatives you can check out are whatcounter, sitemeter and cqcounter

Google Analytics is definately what you are looking for. You can drill down and everything. You can see what pages your visitors landed on and even how many uniques you got from Google for any page of your website and even see the phrases/keywords used to go to that page.

Try Statcounter and/ or Google analytics. Awstats probably doesn't narrow down every user, but if you have a fair amount of visitors to your site, you do need generally feel the need to see that.

Statcounter is free for a log of 100 visitors only, remember that.....
