My website (the one in my sig) is almost fully dependent of the traffic it gets from YouTube. It's a TV show streaming site. What could be a second source of traffic? Just to be less dependent.
Search engine would be the best source of traffic. You could also get a portion of traffic on social networks.
You can see a few obvious similarities between the two with Google an obvious winner again (although the mix is different in terms of percentages). Top Traffic Sources to ProBlogger: 1. google / organic - 42.89% 2. (direct) / (none) - 17.59% 3. google.com / referral - 5.10% 4. stumbleupon.com / referral - 2.54% 5. yahoo / organic - 2.05% 6. twitter.com / referral - 1.87% 7. lifehacker.com / referral - 1.74% 8. del.icio.us / referral - 1.65% 9. bloglines.com / referral - 0.81% 10. technorati.com / referral - 0.79% Top Traffic Sources to DPS: 1. google / organic - 30.54% 2. (direct) / (none) - 23.31% 3. stumbleupon.com / referral - 9.15% 4. google.com / referral - 6.22% 5. yahoo / organic - 2.20% 6. images.google.com / referral - 1.15% 7. mail.google.com / referral - 0.99% 8. lifehacker.com / referral - 0.97% 9. mibrujula.com / referral - 0.71% 10. flickr.com / referral - 0.62%
I definitely agree with a site like Digg. They have over 100,000,000+ visitors every single month. If you get on the front page of there you get those visitors to your site. That's actually what my company MagicShovels does -> we get you on the front page of social media websites given that you have unique content.... Not only do you get thousands of unique, targeted visitors, but you build thousands of back-links which are unbelievable for SEO. If you'd like, fill out a form submission on our site: http://www.magicshovels.com/assessment.html and definitely mention you're from DigitalPoint in the 'how did you find us' field
You´re right. I´m competing with a few huge sites. I only stream 1 show, they stream over 100 shows.
Even submission to Directories will help you a little bit along with putting them in the social bookmarking sites ! And if you can do SEO then that would be too good. - Digital -
You could also try some article marketing or Press Release submissions. Organic traffic from Search Engines as well by doing the above. Go after some backlinks too.
There are a *lot* of video sites that you can post on. As someone mentioned if it works on Youtube, it'll work elsewhere. There are websites or software that will upload your video to numerous sites at one time.
I'd use a keyword tool to find a nice little niche for your videos ... do some SEO for that niche and you should get some decent traffic overtime from Google.
If you're looking for paid traffic. Check out Adengage. For even more in-depth info check out my sig.
Work on SEO by adding the main actors names to your source code Outsource some articles or write yourself, at least one for each season to begin and then is traffic starts coming ... write one for each episode. This will bring traffic for years to come. Add back-links or outsource to gain in the search engine rankings. To monetize the site, have something that could be purchased by strong series fans ... something that is not usually sold in other places. Or add some AdSense? In this was many will return to purchase memorabilia and tell their friends. Offer a prize for anyone who can answer questions about the series, or even by the episode. Just recognizing the achievement might be enough. Add a page of “The Champions of Recollection†where their name could be posted? If you can offer a free special report. by using the opt-n method, a list could be made and email sent to them. Or, offer the website for sale and someone will come along, pay you money and do most of the above. All the Best
SEO there are a few major sites, but you can dominate the rest of the first page. I would also suggest to start fan club (Facebook groups, my space pages etc...) now use your videos to bring people there, so you build a community of people around your groups.
