It's doesn’t matter whether it's paid domin or free. yes the method of traffic building is same you need back link for quick traffic you can use social networking site like Twitter, Facebook and for link building purpose can do Directory submission, social bookmaking, press relies which will give you traffic as well back link

If you want to check other blog traffic you just find out with backlinks watch and than type the blog you want ... go to the website http://www.backlinkwatch.com/

Anyways, I don't have an answer for ya . But I do understand your question. I've been trying to find out something similar recently (the traffic count on specific competing pages as opposed to the entire domain.) I've put a word out on some other sources so if I get an actual answer (not "all traffic building is the same") I'll shoot you a PM.
risma2006, thanks but already checked that. Doesn't help because those link backs I get on there can't drive that much traffic, I'm sure. I believe it's more like Google ( keywords ) and social media, like pages on Facebook. If it's normal domain URL, it would be much easier to find out. lol, thanks John, appreciate it!
Have you tried using SEO Elite before? If not, you should be. It's a good tool to analyze your competition's ranking and traffic.
well it doesn't matter while u have a blog or a paid domain ...... important thing is ur content and ur site subject ... method of generating traffic and doing seo is almost same .....

SEO for Firefox might help... Tells you age, backlinks, story on digg, others, etc... I find it useful when looking at other sites... but I don't think there's much that can work besides compete or alexa.
