Honestly this wont be a "buy from the store" thing. Everybody who had been succeeded either spent tons of money or worked ass out to get somewhere. Worrying too much wont work either.
I would suggest enjoying the process of building traffic. Its not the end of the world if the site doesn't succeed.
Here are few things you may try.
- Directory submissions (free and some paid)
- Link exchange (there are some software which can automate the process)
- Write good useful articles and post it on your site. This will make content for your site.
- Tell your friends about your site. You can make a business card with your site name written BIG. vistaprint.com will give you 250 free business cards.
- add your site content to social bookmarking pages
- etc etc.

I suggest spending some money on advertising with a ppc. Ive tried using traffic exchanges for many years... and unfortunately it doesn't really seem to work very well.

Traffic exchanges work if you are promoting the right thing, the right way.

 

If your a beginner i wouldn't recommend just spending money on PPC ,because you could end up losing a lot of money if you don't know what you are doing.

Start off with Signatures in Forums, Classified Ads ,Submit your website to directories.

During that time ,learn all you can about PPC advertising and when you feel like you have gained enough knowledge ,then give it a try. Just make sure you are prepared before spending money.
