Traffic Ramp

Traffic ramp is a sudden jump in traffic for a website. A big jump. As an example lets say a website is getting 2000 uniques a day. When it hits traffic ramp it may increase to 50000 a day (for example).

Every successful website gets the traffic ramp at some point.

A website may hit the traffic ramp in many ways. An exposure in a popular newspaper, or website or such gives a website boost in traffic. There are various other methods webmasters use to get a website hit the traffic ramp. Social networking sites could be one option amongst them.

    Like to hear your ideas.

Are you referring to a permanent increase or a temporary one?

What effect will it have on Google or any other search engine to have a temporary increase?

Generally a significant boost like that pays off very well. At least 25% permanent increase in traffic would be expected I would say.

    Problem is figuring out how:)

Digg, Stumbleupon, Reddit, Slashdot are good ways for sites to get traffic ramps.

maybe someone who visits could talk about your website on his/her blog, possibly with a link...

One of the options is getting highlighted on newspapers.

Well, I had a site that got stumbled and used up a lot of bandwidth. None of the extra traffic converted so it was really a pain. Good thing that I have unlimited bandwidth or I would be paying for overages!
