    This site is about online web marketing training. Right now, it needs some online mojo. Should I invest my time to add better or new content, or something like running ads.

    When did it start going down? If recently, then it's probably due to the "Fred" algorithm update. You must have had too many bad backlinks pointing back to your site.

    You definitely can / should add new content. My advice is start relying on social media more. Trying to rank keywords, relying on backlinks, even writing good content may not rank your site high(er) in the search results. So, social media is the way to go.
