Traffic increased but my earning is lower

I started my website http://www.dailysoccerblog.net since 3 months ago. At the moment my unique visitor is around 420-500 daily (sometimes 700). But what annoying me is my adsense earning. Last month, in around 1.6% CTR, I earned $49.68. But this month, from 1 to 8 August, I only earned $12. Wow, what a very small amount of money.

In July total of my UV is around: 9200 (earning: $49.68) CTR: 1.6-1.7%
and in 1-8 August my UV is: 4600. (earning: $12???) CTR until 8 August: 1.4%

How is this possible? I mean I have increased my traffic but my adsense earning is lower than last month :(

hi, i m with u. same thing happens to me.
last month , UV/day is about 500. my page impression is good, on average 10+ pages / visitor.

I made 70 bucks last month, but last week, adsense earning almost droped 50%. I notice I got alot 1 -5 cents clicks.

yesterday, I removed some adsense ads, only got 1 left. today i check 2 clicks, $1.17 . I will test it only 1 ad / page this week.

I see u r using link ad, my experiense link unit ad pays really low.

I only used link ad on my home page. Since my website is about football news, so I think people will click my ads on news/other web page (not in my index).

I wonder why my adsense earning is very low...man...

I think google manipulates things more than we give them credit. I started having success with referrals for a couple weeks and noticed that during this success the CPC on my regular ads went down 40%.

It was like Google saw my earnings rising from referrals so decided to pay me less per click on other regular ads. Once I turned the referral ads off due to poor performance, wouldn't you know the amount I got for regular ads went back to normal..

The bottom line I will never know for sure what happened because google does whatever they want and answer to no one.

Same thing is happening to me unfortunately; Traffic is up but AdSense profits are way down. My Devil May Cry is the worst culprit at the moment - profits from that site has pretty much died. Sucks but it happens. I'm hoping it'll pick up again soon.

Here placement looks pretty good to me, especially on the rectangle ad... i have never been a fan of reading red print on black however, it is hard for me to make it out.

I do not think I will ever get back to where i was during January 2007... My site has increased in traffic a lot since then but it is all regular forum members that ignore google ads.. the more members that join the lower my CTR becomes... when you combine that with a 30% drop in the CPC I receive since January I am losing interest.

edit: Sorry I think Leandar was talking about wokaka.... if so, I agree it is hard to see your ads as I stated below...

that ad placement pretty good from your side but thread starter didnt get good amount from that placement , thats why i said read about "Heat map"

First you all have to read what Google said about better paying ad placement

Where should I place Google ads on my pages?

why do you have ads for football equipment on a soccer site?(footballequipment.com)?

    1) use the competitive ad filter
    2) improve your ad placement and colors... putting white ad block titles on a red background is not noticeable, for instance.

google always do that, when you think you are making more they will push you down, when you get more visitors they will make them worth less, when you get more clicks they lower the cpc so you make the same if not lower. It's sad.

I haven't read anyone else's response, but whenever a site's traffic increase coincides with a drop in revenue, it's usually the result of smartpricing. You will usually see a massive revenue increase as your traffic initially goes up, but a month later, the price of each click will plummet. It happens to just about everyone.

at one point you would wish your earning never increased because the drop might hit hard.

You never wish that. Because while Adsense may not keep going up with your traffic, as long as you have a lot of traffic, you can find other ways to earn off that growth.

I keep telling people: Adsense is not, and should NEVER, be your site's only source of revenue. If you don't know what else is out there, you simply aren't working hard enough to learn.
