I'm just wondering, how much traffic can we expect if we host an online contest? I have no prior experience of setting up one, thus I need this kind of information. According to this website, it says that I can expect a traffic of around 3000. I was like, really? Any websites that I can refer or guide me of setting up a contest?
It depend on the price/value for the price that you offer. The bigger the price you offer, the bigger traffics you can get.
It may bring just 3 or 3million depending on how good is the content and how you publish it. Finding a sponsor might be near impossible unless you are a well established website, already. Also nobody will know that you have a contest with some good prices, unless you make an announcement that reaches to the people - read it as money spent on advertising. So overall it can be a success or failure depending on your marketing skills.
So, logically, I can never come out with a figure, right? Unless I have done it before. Edit: Thank you, Mr Alemcherry.
It completely depends on the contest worth and the prizes you give away. I created a post on how to make contests success.
It also depends how vast you advertise your contest. I had experience of contest on http://laremodeling.net. It is a 50 000 kitchen give away for CA. Honestly there are 0 users untill you start promoting the contest itself. If contest is interesting - people will inform each other and popularity will grow in geometric progression.
movvadinesh : oh wow. the blog post in that link really is helping me a lot. I've got most of the things mentioned in that post. I appreciate it so much. enslonik : zomg..50 grand worth of contest.. That is sure as hell would bring in traffic and referrals! Oh man..my sponsor is not giving away much except for store credits and one main prize.. I fear the lameness....
You can have sponsors but the number of visitors may be low if it's not promoted properly. You can read this(14 points) and I have a list of current contest blog: How To Organize A Successful Blog Contest
That is a VERY VERY good read! 1. Don't game the system - check 2. Keep it short - check 3. Make it simple - check 4. Give back to sponsors - don't quite understand what you mean.. 5. Don't "force" RSS subscribing by email - check 6. Have an end date - check 7. Promote The Contest - check. I have some lists already and will add in more 8. Give the prize - check. Will followup with the sponsor. 9. Contact the sponsors - check. all systems go. 10. Don't have too many sponsors - check. currently just one. 11. Contact the winners/sponsors - check. your template looks cool 12. Use the comments - err..check 13. Link to winners - check. good idea. 14. Be fair - check. fairplay is the name of the game. I'd suggest anyone going to host a contest (and superbly a newbie) to go check it out.
Thanks. 4. Give back to sponsors: A simple backlink to their sites using the anchor keyword they want when participant post about the contest for more tickets. That's the most common thing contest do now.
you should check all updated seo method and use them so you can get 3000 traffics. If your site have unique and better content and meta tags, good inbound link, i sure you can get reall hug traffics that you wish.
Thank you to everyone in this topic for helping me. Hopefully by second week of September I will come out with a contest. Much much appreciated for your help.
