Well, if the keyword is like ebay, Shawn can better tell the amount if traffic you can get. But, if your keyword is a big monster keyword, searched a million times, u can probably get half a million uniques a month.
Not sure what the point of your post is. Are you looking to find out what hot keywords are? If so, that would be Britney Spears, Viagra, etc... Every site will have its ebbs and flows from various keywords. Perhaps more than ranking on top for a given keyword, nothing can spike traffic like being mentioned in the non-web media (say, on CNN, NPR, Fox, Howard Stern...), or being linked from Slashdot, NYT, et al. Those kinds of things regularly bring a server to its scabby knees. combine those two things where say, Paris Hilton's cell phone gets hacked, then if you rank well for Paris Hilton, you'll likely spike for a short time from the buzz.
Lots of smaller keywords will always bring more traffic than just one keyword, plus it covers you incase there is an algo switch and you drop down the SERP's.
I'm on the 2nd page of Googl results for "Hulk" and get a handful of inbounds a day! ;-) Seriousely, this is a kinda interesting question - does anyone (besides Shawn!) have a keyword (or keywords) that generate more than say, a thousand inbounds a day?
Sorry for my english, anyway I didn't want to know "wich" keyword generate traffic for you, but "how much" for a single word ( you don't have to tell the keyword ) , for example the maximum i had for a single keyword is about 1500/day , that was because, after the latest update i 'm ranking #1 for a company name i think because a lot of people searche google instead of typing the url directly.
It depends on the keyword. One of my minor keywords was ranking #1 in G for a couple of weeks, now it's down to #2. I get about 15 to 20 uniques a day from it and that's all. I'm not very compeditive on that brand so I never really tried to do much with it. I'm not sure why I'm raking so high with it. If I could get just one of my major keywords in the top 10 I'd be rolling in it.
I don't care about the name of the company or keyword, bur I would like to know how many searches a day are made on the keyword according to Wordtracker and/or Overture. Roger
