    Hi all,

I've read already a lot of great ideas and tips about website advertising here at DP . But after relaunching my freegames-site www.*handygo*.de - please remove the "*" - (its multi lingual) with all the new knowhow collected here a month ago I'm still dissatisfied with the result. I'm only getting 10% of my visitors from google and mid XXX visitors at all. That could be much more I think - the content is complete unique and - most important - its all free!
I've done it all: unique content, articles (e.g. digg.com), directorys, on-site-optimisation and so on.

Ok, enough of whining ;) - are the common ways in promoting freeware sites? I subbmited the site to a lot of freeware directorys. Sadly the largest of them (thefreesite.com) is ignoring my submissions and the most important - DMOZ - dont likes the site because of some affiliate content.

Mmhh, there must be a way to increase the search engine traffic, but I have no ideas left.

    Thanks for any ideas!

    Regards, Axel

You've got something unique which is more than 90% of the other sites have going for them, so take advantage of that. If you have rights to the games, I would submit at least one to every download site you can find (i.e. Tucows, CNet, etc.) There are literally hundreds of backlinks there for the taking, and these are links that the other 90% of sites can't get.

The other thing to consider is: are people returning to your site? It's a lot easier to build traffic when you know that x% are going to come back and be regular visitors, rather than constantly trying to scrap for new traffic everyday. Possibly add some benefits for becoming a member, add a newsletter, or something to make people remember your site and come back.

Most of all, keep in mind that 2/3 of promotion is motion - if only 1 out of 20 promotional tactics work, then hurry up and try 20 different tactics! :)

    Hi Carlito,

thanks for your ideas - I like the one with submitting games to download sites. I will give it a try. I dont own all these games - I have the permisssion to distribute them (games are all freeware). But one game is developed by myself, so thats really "mine". ;) Should be enough for submitting to Tucows...

How about creating your own freeware directory where "handygo" IS the directory where people submit freeware - you could top the list in every category or make yourself the sponsor. Just a thought.
