Actually it does help quite a bit with your Alexa ranking. I asked myself the same question over 6 months ago and thought I would do a little experiment with it. In about a month I saw it jump from from 1.5 million to 780 grand now its 154,000. So i know it works.
Why in the world do you want to improve your alexa rankings with traffic exchanges? Blog everyday, and increase your traffic.

Alexa ranking work with the traffic that they monitor so download Alexa bar for IE and use IE when u go to ur site advise your friend/partners/guests to do the same Alexa only cares for people that use their products keep that in mind. so your rank its mainly based on how many Slexa users go to ur site.
oh yea i forgot about that, yea they do only count visitors on ur site that HAS alexa toolbar, if u dont have it, their visits dont count, which is kinda bad lol, imagine u get 10000 uniques and only 3000 of those have the toolbar, they'll only count the 3000
ye, i see that. One of my blog related to webmasters which has good rank on it and the other blog which is not related to webmasters and it has quite bad rank, even though both get same amount of traffic.

Also this only breaks the google tos if a large percentage of clicks come from a cingular source, the exchange for example. alexa rank only come from alexa users . thats in it dont matter how many backlinks you have and all that crap alexa only made it that if their users visit your site they give you a rean if they dont you get nutting. you can have a pr 5 6 7 and have a alexa rank of 1mil
