Email marketing has nothing to do with traffic, except if you point them to a page on your site. Email marketing is all about keeping in contact with potential and actual customers in your niche easily. Without an opt-in list, your marketing efforts will literally FLOP.
On Contrary, It is only one way of keeping your client on site other than taking about "dot bombs". People have been bring traffic using email marketing via sending 100's of 1000's of emails nationwide, via sending emails to them. There are few custom made software's but I think You can achieve your goal via many open source softwares like phplist, not sure 100% but it does the job. Other thing you need to do is get a huge lists of emails to your target area. You either have to buy them from some one online or you can get a C.D of emails. I have seen like a C.D that contains about 2 lack plus email I.D's
Sorry, I meant that just because you have an opt-in form on your site, it doesn't make more people come to your site.
I don't think this is going to work. Out of 1.000.000 emails you will barely get 10-20 visits. At least I think so, people just ignore spam these days.
The difference is that if you are build a list of opt-in subscribers, that you have built a relationship with, they do not see your email as spam, but rather as information from a friend. That is the goal you want to reach in email marketing, and that can drive people to your website, who are interested in what you have there.
Good topic. I am struggling with building a blog, mailing list, etc. for my sites. I would be interested in more information about building a list. I'll check out the free information you linked to.
