Google analitics is good and easy to use if your care about real visitors (not bots). If you need to analyze bots, Webalizer is good for that

Why would anyone want to analyze bots?

    a) to block unwanted bots that waste your bandwidth and cpu
    b) to understand what pages the wanted (google/yahoo) bots crawl and how often

    a) bots changing ips constantly, no use to block them after analyses, coz its already late
    b) you dont really need to analyze logs to know it, you can control it.

    c) it sure interesting to check the raw logs, but waste of time, really, IMHO...

Google analytics is good - my suggestion.

Webalizer is good as said before.

It will take time, better not to go with paid traffic.

Google Analytics is superb free tool that a webmaster can have for measuring the traffic! however Awstats also does fine job as replacement of GA
