I have a site that is taking off pretty well, with a short unique name. It is by no meals a real branded name, just a combination of two words. Should I trademark the name to avoid any legal issues down the road. Anyone have experience with this and the easy route to take? Thanks much
I am glad to be the first to reply to your post. The law on creative works and copyright operates in this way: Any creative work on a lasting medium, I.E paper, tape etc, you automatically have copyright on. Getting official copyright documentation brings advantages such as immediate right to sue, but it is not all important to have. I have basically summarized from a good website which is credited below. It has a good but brief description of why copyright is automatic and what it brings you: http://www.intellectual-property.gov.uk/faq/copyright/auto_protection.htm I hope I answered your question.
