Has anyone trademarked their domain names or site names? I guess this would also sort of cover copyrighting your material too then right?

You should ask to have this thread moved to the legal forum. This forum is for discussions relating to writing.

How is this a legal issue?

This is similar to copyright. I am basically asking what is similar between copyright and trademark. I write lots of blogs and I want to know if copyrights benefit me more than trademarks?

I'm not looking to sue anyone or anything like that.

I generally wanna know what others do to protect their copyright written materials?

this is the copywriting forum. Copywriting is not the same as copyrighting. As the previous posters have advised, move it to the legal section.
