Tracking your ad campaigns effectively

    High profile sites like Shoemoney and Johnchow.com sell ad spaces quicker than you can blink. However, placing your ad(s) on these sites without an effective way of tracking its performance can turn out to be a horrible investment.

    Why do I say this you ask? Let's assume you have created an ad campaign with the sole objective of getting 1000 New Yorkers to click your ad within 30 days. You then approach a high profile blogger who tells you that if you pay him/her $300 to advertise on his/her blog, you will be guaranteed your 1000 New York City clicks. So each targeted click averages out to 30 cents per click.

    Here are the foreseeable problems with this approach:

    a. You may end up over paying for the ad space which ultimately reduces your return on investment.

    b. You probably will not have an efficient means of tracking the performance of your ad. Especially if you only provided the blogger with an ad creative and a landing page URL.
