Tracking traffic from unplanned phrases and keywords

Discussion in 'Keywords' started by William Martin, Oct 26, 2005.

As I'm sure everyone does, I get a fair bit of traffic from keywords or keyword phrases which were unplanned, stuff like "widgets with a twist of melon-yellow colour homous" etc etc which you'd never activly go an persue. Nevertheless, there is a traffic there and I find it interesting.

Was wondering, mainly for my own curiosity, if there is a resource out there which will show you EVERY phrase your site is ranked for in Google. This is a kind of reverse engineer or the DP keyword tracker. Instead of entering the keywords to track, i'd enter the url of my site and let it tell me that I'm ranking for

    Phrase 1 # 54
    Phrase 2 # 7
    Phrase 3 # 4

    Etc etc

I very much doubt anything like this exists as I can't see how it's possible but just thought i'd ask.

    Thanks,

I don't think such a tool exists. you're probably best checking your log files to find how people find you and then if needed look up where those phrases are on the SE's.

that would be a very hard to make tool. imagine the number of variations with just one letter. multiply it to an infinite number of letters and woah. that's a big number.. :p

I've seen a couple of small businesses use this tool and they wouldn't be able to afford BIG bucks for it. I must dig out the sites and let you have a look.

I use http://www.hitslink.com which will let you see what search terms people are using to find you, so a half way house to what you are after

Kind of. My curiosity is finding out ALL terms that we are listed until, regardless of whether I get any traffic from it. Prettu useless curiosity but.. it did kill the cat.

Wasn't aware of Hitslink - might give it a try.
