I currently have a four stage process to purchase
    1) Add to cart - Conversion Tracking code 1 - Lead
    2) Login - conversion Tracking code 2 - Lead
    3) Payment Confirmation - Conversion Tracking code 3 - Lead
    4) Get sent to payment company Nochex - No Tracking
    5) Successful Payment - Conversion Tracking code 4 - Purchase

Now I want to follow whne people drop out so I can optimise my site, however, I have a few questions. This payment "funnel" is similar to lots of sites, is this how they track customers on google analytics or is there a better way?

Also I've placed the 4 google tracking codes onto my site. As soon as I hit tracking code 1 (add to cart) it stops tracking the other codes. I tried it again by the first action logging in instead of adding to cart and this was displayed on analytics with tracking code 2 increasing by 1, however, the others weren'e. Does Analaytics stop tracking after the first conversion. I've set 1,2,3 as leads and 4 as a purchase, any help woule be much appreciated.

google analytics is best.. why we track? so we can focus on site why people close site and not purchase or give lead. and in which step they exit from site.. so we can work on it.

i recommend you. do quick check out. like paypal express checkout.

google analytics not stop to work on , 1,2,3 or any step. its track ful. unless there is not any other tracking code to disturb it. use only google analytics.

Use AdWords conversion tracking code on the "Thank You" page and use Google Analytics track visitors in your purchase funnel.
