    Hey everyone.

I'm having a major problem with some of the sites in my account being really resource intensive (even on a vps), but I have no idea of tracking down which.

The host isnt really helping - i only got a shell command in the wiki, which doesnt even show anything (just running processes)

Is there any way to track what is causing the problems (huge memory spikes)?

Yeah you should complain to your host. lol. Seriously call them up if they have a number and be heard! Threaten to leave them if they don't help you figure it out. Thats why we pay them!

Check what processes are using up all the cpu and ram ;) but hey maybe it's a bw issue or misconfigurations on your part. If you got unmanaged it's up to you to configure it right.

    another point to consider is:

is the problem a persistend 24/7 problem or only on certain times of certain days ?

I just had such a problem where 2 sites downloaded quantities of files
one of them some 7+ GB and some 133245 file requests in some 2-3 hrs

a access_log verification of the time around the abuse instantly displayed the IP in question - an endlessly looping bot.

iptables solved the problem in my case.

hence there are many different possible sources for overloading your site/server/cpu
