Hello, Can anybody advise me please, as the DP Tracker doesn't seem to track automatically? I'm a Premium member I've set up APIs with Google (4 in fact just to test) with unlimited calls, all IPs etc. When I click 'update all' (or similar) it appears like it's doesn't something, but nothing changes On the Google side of things I've checked the number of API calls which is several hundred but about 50% are returned as errors If I click each one individually then some work but now i've noticed a 'daily limit exceeded' error In the Tracker I either get N/A or a rank number (about 10% of my keywords) and then about 90% just blank. Anybody got any ideas what to do please? Thanks in advance
The Google API key have a limit of 100 queries per day. The message you are getting about that limit being exceeded is coming from Google (it's just being relayed). Looking up a single keyword will take 1 query per 10 deep it needs to look. For example if you set it to look 100 deep and it's in position 91-100, that will take 10 queries to get that deep.
Thanks for that. So if everything is limited by Google's API then we can only ever track 100 keywords for a top 10 position, or 25 keywords for the top 40 position? Why does the Tracking Tool promo page (as a benefit of being a Premium member) say that several things (including the number of keywords) is unlimited when it's not? Or have a got something wrong about the way it works? Thanks again,
Most people use a Google API key that isn't limited. You can also use unlimited free ones if you don't want to use a normal Google API key.
Thanks again for the help. I've added 4 API keys from my Google account. As per the instruction on DP I have made these unlimited access. Can you please explain how to use a Google API that isn't limited as opposed to a normal one? I don't see an option in google to have it limited or unlimited. Or how to get an unlimited free one if it's different. Any specifics on how to actually get to use the DP tool working as expected would be greatly appreciated.
Google charges $5 per 1,000 queries beyond the free 100 they give per day. https://developers.google.com/custom-search/json-api/v1/overview#pricing
Ah, right. I didn't know about that. It's not clear at all on Google's API page. So if I add ten free API's that too would allow 1000 queries (?) or is that not how it works. Thanks
ok thank you, I'll give it a go even though I got 4 in there already. Fingers crossed so I can get rid of my paid tracker
