Well it's specifically for a Wordpress blog.

You can see Trackbacks and Pingbacks in Disqus Comment system too. They are actually URL's which link to your site but as that URL appears on your site too as a trackback so I just wanted to know what's the purpose of it and if it is safe ?

Because if it appears as a trackback on your site, your site would then link to other sites, some of which may have poor ranks. So is it a good practice for SEO or unsafe to allow ?

Trackbacks/Pingbacks are typically "nofollow" links (which basically tell the search engines that they are untrusted). So I don't think it would hurt your site in terms of SEO to allow them.

But if you see trackbacks that are obviously spam though, don't approve those because there's no point and it sucks for any visitors of your site to click through to some spam page.

I prefer not to enable Trackbacks because it looks like garbage in the comments.
