Well the world's largest annual sporting event Tour de France begins today for yellow jersey. We know that last few years were very bad due to drug scandles and now this time we would see totally different and wide open race as last year's winner, Alberto Contador, is not taking part because his team, Astana is not invited.

One of the sad things for me as Discover Channel didn't renewed the sponsership and this time we wouldn't see that US team and I will miss some great racers.

I will put money on this four people who could win Tour de France.

    Cadel Evans ( Silence-Lotto )
    Alejandro Valverde ( Caisse D'Epargne )
    Denis Menchov ( Rabobank )
    Carlos Sastre ( CSC-Saxobank)

    What you think guys?

It starts in a bit over 1 hour! I generally don't get excited by (watching) sports, but F1, WRC and le Tour are exceptions.

Cadel's going to win this one :)

You'd never guess he was a world class cyclist. He looks more like a plumber :p

EDIT: Just found this great video of Kraftwerk's Tour de France from a few years ago....

Unfortunately Alberto Contador’s (Tour 207 winner, and Giro 2008 winner) will not be able to defend his Tour crown as Team Astana is banned from the 2008 Tour de France.

So my bet goes to Alejandro Valverde.

You mean to say his team mate tested positive for drugs so he pulled out :p

Rumour has it Contador was using last year. The way he was attacking those climbs it wouldn't surprise me.

Well I guess he is one of the best climber in Cycling and no one can match with his tempo on hill. He did it time and time.

Also he was part of Team Discovery last year but Discovery pull out their sponsership and he joined Astana team. But this year Astana not invited.:D

I will put my money on Cadel Evans,runner-up in last year's race.

I also wish this time we would see clean race because it is one of the oldest cycling event. Alejandro Valverde took the Yellow Jersy and my favorite Cadel Evans is on 5th position. I am sure we would see changes from today.:D

the mountains start today. it's going to be more challenging and from now on we will see who has the strength to win le Tour. Yesterday at the time trial Valverde wasn't too impressive.

i think it will go between: Cadel Evans, Carlos Sastre and Damiano Cunego [i think he will be the big surprise this year]

They took an interview of that guy yesterday and he was almost crying. Sprinters were too damn fast for him.

Yeah it was great to see that 30 Seconds. I think it is good for Tour to not have big players and we able to see some new talents.

Althogh I love high hills where we would see best rider.:)

Yes, but i guess that R. Ricco is not going to finish this tour.
And Damiano Cunego (your big surprise bet) showed weakness symptoms.

I think Cadel will win this year tour.

I just watched Legends of Tour de France - Lance Armstrong dvd and man, he is a superhuman. I doubt we will ever seen someone like him in the nearest future.

Well it's going to be decided tonight. Sastra will have to do the time trial of his life to win, Cadel just has to go about his business and should win. He beat Sastra by 1:16 in the first time trial which was only half the distance.

    Can't wait for tonight!
