Totally new to adwords... why are some of my keywords inactive?

It seems like adwords is making certain keywords I selected active and deactivating others randomly. The phrase that seems to get the best results is inactive and I can't make it active again, what should I do?

The easy way to make the keyword active again is to increase your bid.

The cheaper way would be to increase your quality score by improving the relevance of your landing page and ad text (including the keyword in title or description).

Well my stuff randomly started showing up on content sites. Everything shot up in price too, rather scary.

    It's not random.
