Total URL's and Indexed URL

    Hello everyone,

I have submitted my Webpages sitemap in google webmaster tools about 4-5 days Ago and I have something unclear which hope that someone will make it clear for me.

    My sitemaps looks like this:

    Direct Link of Screenshot: www.im.gg/images/sitemap.jpg

So I have Total URLs in Sitemap 1500 but Indexed URLs are only 14?
    What does that mean?
    Is that not good ?
    How to increase indexed URL's?

    Thank you,
    bess!

    Hello,

One thing I noticed is that your sitemaps were recently submitted. There may be a time factor and you just haven't been completely processed yet. If you have had a sitemap for a while now (and this is just the most recent submission of it), then there may be issues with the types of URLs in your sitemap, or issues with your site itself.

Google moves webpages/sites through 6 stages...

Seen (submit a sitemap or found a link from another site)
    Crawled (but not indexed)
Unique (not a 'very similar' URL or content)
    Indexed (but not shown)
    Shown (on a results page)
    Clicked

As a higher percentage of your content moves through the 6 stages, your site will naturally rank better since Google assumes it's more relevant to your topic.

Try using filters on your URLs when creating your sitemap... no reason to include hundreds of 'buy now' or 'make post' pages in your sitemap. This should reduce a lot of content that is very similar in nature, giving them more of a reason to look at your other content.

    Hello MaxPowers,

First I would like to thank you again for your kind support via PM.

Now you actually told me that I have URL's like calendar.php, tags.php etc... and you told me to filter this, or remove.

Now my question is can I just rename these URL's or you mean it otherwise ?

Thank you very much for your kind support.
    Bess!

Those filenames are used again and again in your sitemap. Many of the URLs are 100% similar (no content, just the default messages).

By removing those URLs from your sitemap, a higher percentage of your URLs will move through the 'Unique' stage and into the 'Indexed' stage.

Unless you have a busy calendar scheduled (most sites don't), then your calendar pages can run on for thousands of days (URLs) and not have any unique events posted. URLs with a calendar file in them are always suspect, but that doesn't mean that you aren't using your Calendar app, let common sense dictate what you do.

Your tag pages are most likely using content from other single pages on your site, so they don't offer much in the way of unique content... very handy for Humans to see, but not incredibly important in your sitemap.

    Hello again,

    Ok!

I have remove calendar.php, and tags and my URLs get down for more than 1000 URL...

I went at xml-sitemaps.com and created an free sitemap which you can see in image below...

    im.gg/images/sitemacoc.jpg

Still indexing only 15 URL from 1529 in Total.

I will also note that the site is vBulletin forum, and that sitemap which has 1529 URL is Auto Generated dialy with vBSEO

    Any further advice...

    Bess!

At this point, FreeCash said it best... only patience will tell how the changes went. Google is indexing billions of pages and crawling a whole lot more than it indexes. You should see an increase in indexed pages within a week or so.

As they realize that you have a higher percentage of 'unique' URLs/content, they will begin to index your site (new pages and updates) quicker.

There are many places to get sitemaps for free, but at $1 an update, the AutoMapIt Pro system is a very cost effective way to make sure your site isn't freaking out under-the-hood and scaring off the search engines.

Those numbers are really just "verified indexed URLs in sitemap". One can easily prove that the "indexed" numbers has nothing to do with the number of URLs indexed in reality. But it is a good measure for how far sitemap file processing has come. You might want to read the google sitemaps indexed urls article.
