Hi all, hope you can help...I'll stick to the point and try not to waffle too much.

First thing's first, the limits to my knowledge on SEO practise are, well, er...Poor.

I've spent a while getting to grips with the organic seo content on my site and managed to get 100% scores on relevancy...I know what you're probably thinking, those free analytic tools are crap, right??? Still, it's all I had, and all I really understand.

1 I'vebeen told that the more incoming links you've got the better, but the links have got to be qualititive not quantitive, ie: Hold some relevance to the meta content on the site that's sending the traffic...

Is this true...If it is, ignore question 2

2 I've been building MySQL PHP CMS's for 4 years (hense my lack of real understanding with SEO) and have a portfolio of about 300 active sites...I have spoken to the majority of my clients and they have mostly agreed to let me link through, so, here's the second question:

Does the googlebot care how many links are contained within 1 domain, ie: I have a client who has a 1012 page site. If I put a link on every page will that work better for me, or will google realise it's all coming from the same site and offer me no advantage....If the answer is 'no, you will not gain any advantage by placing loads of links on the same site', then please ignore question 3.

3 Can you get away with creating web pages in a domain that are independant of the main site, ie: 'You can't navigate to them via the web pages'...Hense being able to create an inventory of links????

4 This one's a bit naughty, but please don't flame me, I'm not an SEO...Does google know if you hide links using CSS???

5 I've used the mod_rewrite on Apache a few times in order to create search engine friendly links...Is this worth doing for everything I do?

...Any other advice you can give to a total 'no hoper', will be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance and kind regards

    Mark

Yes, the more links you have the better. The better quality the links the better. Both of these factors are taken into account in search engine rankings.

Yes, search engines know that links are coming from one domain and they will value the links differently. For example, 100 links from one domain will weigh less than 100 links coming from different domains. 100 links from 1 domain is still better than 1 link from the same domain however.

3 Can you get away with creating web pages in a domain that are independant of the main site, ie: 'You can't navigate to them via the web pages'...Hense being able to create an inventory of links????

I would stay clear of such practices. Search engines can definitely figure this stuff out and discount the value of those links. Also, you do not want to risk a penalty for doing something that won't do you much good anyway.

4 This one's a bit naughty, but please don't flame me, I'm not an SEO...Does google know if you hide links using CSS???

Yes, they know. They're a lot smarter than you think.

5 I've used the mod_rewrite on Apache a few times in order to create search engine friendly links...Is this worth doing for everything I do?

Yes, it can add SEO value to your pages. Make sure you 301 redirect the old URLs to the new versions.
