Hello, I'm new to the world of SEO. I set up my own blog but it is more of a hobby site than a moneymaker right now. I have a question in which I think I know the answer but just want confirmed. Is there anyway to check how much traffic a website (other than my own) is getting? Thanks for any and all answers Indigo
Indigo, The only way to find out exactly how much traffic another site is getting is by reviewing their httpd log files. But if the site has enough activity to show up on the net radar AND you have enough money you can get fairly accurate data from http://www.comscore.com/ . Otherwise you're stuck with looking at the alexa ranking - which can be easily manipulated for sites with rankings higher than 20k - www.alexa.com . -jay
OMG, I totally spaced that I posted here. Sorry to hit and run like that. Thanks for the info. Even just getting a general idea is great. Thanks again Jay.
Go to www.extremetracking.com they have detailed tracking.. The free version requires you to stick a small banner on your page.. If your just making a blog it should not be a problem. You will be able to see location, where your traffic is comming from how long they are on the site for, search engine querys etc.. Take a look. Hope that helps
Google analytics is good for people with no money... If you have a cpanel you probably have awstats... they have always been good for me (just as a quick check)
but, hes asking for traking a site that isnt of him, i dont think its possible, unless you can add some comment, and be allowed to html, maybe you can place a widget.
No you cannot get information on how many people visit another website because website traffic is measured by a special script whether server or client which is placed in the websites body. Since you do not have access to the script nor the output file, there is no way to tell.
I am new to the forum and very new just starting to do blog. Yes suing Google analytics is good for people with no money, like me.
Write a e-mail to the webmaster saying you are a student doing a paper on his sucsesfull website, or just make up something flattery will get you a long way . While you're at it, you can ask him a whole bunch of questions about his website, how much money is he making or anything you need to know, just make sure he doesn't catch on.
Hello AlohaAloha, I'm pretty new to this blogging thing and just came across you on one of these treads. By any chance, are you from Hawaii? Just curious by your screen name, it appears so. I'm from Hawaii too.
I also had the same questions and I started to use google analytics for free so I wanted to share that
