Hi there! I'm a total newbie to databases and anything that has to do with writing codes or scripts (except a bit in flash that I taught myself through the net). Here is my situation: I'm a graphic designer about to redesign a year old flash-page that I made for fun for a friend. In the beginning this was only a simple site where I put a lot of effects into flash in order to make it look great from a designer's point of view. However, as he asked me to add more and more pictures the site became "heavier" and it took longer and longer to make it load. Finally, he asked me a couple of days ago to redesign the site and to add more pictures. We agreed on a purely HTML based website this time. The problem is now: I used to protect the site with an extremely simple flash-code and a little form in order to keep uninvited users out as my friend is very hysterical about this. Now, I look at the same issue for the HTML site I am about to make. Besides the code for a simple log-in protection I have to admit that I also would like to learn more about simple to medium difficulty coding so I could add a forum for users later on in the process of making the page which they could use to post stuff into just like here and I'd like to learn those tricks in a relative quick manner. The website is hosted by a provider (with subscription etc.) so I do not run my own server. Any thoughts on this one? Thanks already now! safesite
password protection can be done very simply with .htaccess http://www.freewebmasterhelp.com/tutorials/htaccess/3 This forum uses vBulletin, which is quite painless to install. I've also used the vbulletin login system to create password protected parts of a site - although this is probably quite difficult for a noob to do. vbulletin - highly recommeded if your looking to set up a forum
