if you are hosting torrent files on a server in USA, but you live in say canada, and you get sued or face some type of US prosecution, is this possible? since canada is outside of US jursidiction, MPAA and RIAA can't get to you ?

what if you lived in hong kong or china ?

Technically torrent is immune to legal proceedings as servers do not store illegal sites.
But RIAA and MPAA can bend the rules. They have done it in case of other P2P network but not torrent.
But considering the hefty amount for 5-6 mp3s it is unthinkable what will be the amount of fine that will be imposed on several hundred gigabytes of movies.

I recall a situation to this not too too long ago, I think VA. It wasn't exactly a torrent site, but the site violated VA state law, however, not where the person was from. VA indicted him and he was prosecuted, convicted, and is serving jail time in VA.
