Torrents... Are they worth the FREAKING bother!

Seriously, I used to use torrent sites and stuff when I was poor...

Now I just buy software outright...

Everyone should stay away from torrents most of the crap on there gives your spyware and most of the stuff doesn't work.

Besides its unethical, thats another reason I stopped doing it, its stealing...

What do you guys think about torrents, personally... I HATE THEM!

I guess this has already been discussed but I'll say using them is not good as most of them can affect your Computer with spywares and other crap. It is illegal though but not every one can buy these high price software so they hvae to use illegal software. Despite hating many people can't afford licensed software. But companies make their profit so it's not a big loss for them.

 

I like torrents as they are a quick way to get files. They arent worth it for movies as its easier to get a netfliz or blockbuster account and pay 10/month.

For tv shows torrents are good because when good shows go off the air or you miss and episode its just easy to go to a torrent site and download it instead of waiting for it to play again or for itunes to sell it.

As for music songs are expensice so if you dont have the money I feel its okay as youre not ripping the artist off as much as you are the record company and artists dont make music to sell it they make it for you to listen to but if you have the money to spend theres no reason you shouldnt pay.

As for software, there are so many great open source programs that theres no reason to rip pay software. That said certain pay software is just way better for example photoshop, yes there is gimp but it doesnt even compare in my opinion but photoshop is 650 dollars. Luckily I can use my schools license but if I didnt have that, photoshop would be the only program Id pirate.

Also torrents have gotten a bad name due to piracy but at its core torrent is just a way to download files and its good because it takes the load of downloads of your server and onto the people using your files.

 

I hate torrents but cant stop myself from downloading free movies + mp3s.

 

I torrent tons of movies. My DVD reader is weird, so I can't be bothered to buy DVDs to watch on comp.

 

i have not used any torents till now, actually i don't even know exactly how it is done! i use the demo versions of popular softwares, and when the demo time finishes i search for another option!

Well Torrent is always not good foe downloading software and other stuff.
I think Torrents is best for only downloading media files like TV shows,movies and adult content.

 

I get my 'items' off of usenet. I've used it since 1984 and have never had a virus or any spyware. Just about anything you see on a torrent can be found in the newsgroups.
Also the d/l is a lot faster with the right provider.

 

I've never gotten any virus or spyware from torrents (I hope :S), but i've only got 11GB of it (music)

 

I have pretty much gien up on torrents. I have a super-fast internet connection, but the downloads still just draaaaaag.

Most torrent download sites have user comments, I read them before downloading, and I use a mac, so no threat from spyware, viruses, trojans, ect.

Here's the 101.

Download uTorrent from www.utorrent.com, which is the one I use.

Go to torrentz.com, and search whatever you wish for. After a list of sites comes up, I usually pick a torrentspy if available, since reviews are given clearly. Only download torrents with huge healths and positive comments, and ALWAYS check before unzipping. Anyway, download it, and go to uTorrent. There, add the torrent, and you're good. You can minimize your uploading to save bandwidth in the preferences, but I wont go too far into that.
