    hi,
i am new to adsense and wanting to make my first high quality content driven website. i am a bit lost on how to find out if a niche is profitable.

i have read that using the digital point keyword search tool should yield a result of 1000 clickthroughs a day or more. the topic i am interested in yeilds only 300, but each subtopic also yeilds 300, so with quite a few subtopics would this be a good idea?

also how can i find out if there will be ads displayed for my keyword and their value?

also since i am new if anyone has any recomended reading (as i have been searching the forums but sometimes great posts are hard to find) please recommend these as i am very interested in reading more.

    thanks,
    jaiburn

Just consider the kinds of people who will be visiting your site, i.e. your target audience, and the content you are providing to them. Are they the kinds of people likely to be willing to pay for something? Is your content likely to cross over with a market that your readers may be interested in buying from?

A good example is torrents. Generally people looking for free (usually pirated) stuff, are not willing to pay for anything, hence you probably will earn very little from a market like this. Likewise for, say, politics. You're not likely to get relevant ads from political discussion that your readers are going to want to buy from.

In contrast, a site about, say, digital cameras, is likely to attract people interested in cameras or possibly in the market for a camera, hence they'll be much more likely to click on an ad if it seems relevant to what they're looking for. The same goes for other commercially-relevant topics, such as web hosting, cars, lawyers, credit cards, etc.

The topics I mentioned are already heavily used by AdSense marketers, but they still serve as good examples of what sorts of website topics you should be aiming for if you're interested in good click-through rates and payouts.

yeh but what i mean is, i know someone that has a website on ohms law, it is less than 10 pages long with pretty generic information (something that could be knocked up in about half an hour) yet they make approx $3 a day on it using adsense. when i type ohms law into google, they are on about the 4th page of sites, and no ads come up on the sidebar, so i dont understand how they are making a profit. hence i am finding it very hard to decide which topics i am thinking about writting are profitable.
