Alexa ranking doesn't mean alot. I am a ranking of 22,000 or so but I only get 400 to 800 vistors a day. But because they are all geek wienies and have Alexa toolbar instaledl I have a low Alexa Ranking.

Also you can buy software and services that will pump up your Alexa ranking so I won't trust in it to much.

Bob, if I would have e-shop and if I would get between 400-800 visitors and if only 5% of these visitors would buy products, I would be satisfied buddy.
22,000 ranking is not bad If you can use it wisely ;)

It used to be easy to manipulate the alexa traffic. All one would have to do is keep visiting your own site over and over to boost it. I don't know if they have changed that now though.

Me neither gazelle, but I am talking about real visitor statistics.
If that alexa graph shows real statistics like as Bob said, that woud be benefit for website owner.

Estrange: Well I worked first to build my site as an information site. The best thing I did was come up the pagerank page that tracks pagerank and shows the history for the last 4 years. I am not working on putting up the best web directory list that is out there.

Slowing I am moving my site to be profitable. I am selling ads on it and offering the quality affilates that I use myself. Hostdeal offers $50US a sign up, Arelis gives $15 a product sold, Uncover the Net give $10 per sign up, the SEO Book gives $30 per sale. I use them all myself, have puchased them all myself and I like them all. So I am offering my visitors quality products.

Now my site makes $500 plus a month which isn't very much but its a start.

But to get traffic you have to offer something and rank well. I am working on both of those slowly.

I am now working on "wow" design make over for my site so that it will look more attractive. I still have to get my blog going, and I am adding a directory started block to my front page that will point to the new directory I am opening up.

Its slow hard work to make everything come together but if you keep working at it things come together sooner or later.

I wouldn't mind it if I had a site of my own that made me 500 bucks a month

WebGazelle: Offer free SEO advise, write some content, work on getting traffic. $500 is not very much for a site to bring in.

WebGazelle: Well many if not most people are looking for link popularity and PR vote when they submit to a web directory. You will not rank with Google and hence you will get less traffice but there is Yahoo and now MSN. I am very glad to see another major search engine appear. This will take away to some degree from the dominance that Google has. So I wouldn't worry to much.

I am not concerned about google. I know that after the wait time for the sandbox that I will see a new surge of traffic and that will be a reason to party. Till then I will use traffic from Yahoo and MSN.
