I have always wondered how to get in the sponsored links up top instead of on the right. I now have a keyword phrase that is up there. So what determines how to get up there? thanks in advance
Increase your bids to get higher positions. However, if you are asking why the ads run sometimes on the top and right - and sometimes only on the right - there is no reason. Google is always testing page layouts to optimize them for results (probably Google's). I encourage you to install Analytics to see which positions lead to the most conversions. I often find I do better in the 3 to 5 positions.
There is a reason, it's not random. Your ad gets shown on the top of the search results, rather than the side, for a combination of cost and quality score - About top placement: Ad placement is based on your cost-per-click bid (how much you are willing to pay per click) times Quality Score (Ad rank = CPC bid x Quality Score). To be promoted to a top position above Google search results, your ad must exceed a certain quality threshold, which helps ensure that only the highest quality ads appear in top spots. https://adwords.google.com/support/...44&query=top+position&topic=&type=f& onclick=
ah thanks, good news is the 12-16 hours day of working on content and SEO'n the site are starting to show progress.
Re-read the first reply, he was talking about the appearance of ads in both a "top and right" vs. "just on the right" layout, not the position of individual ads.
Yes, I read it, thanks. There is a reason. It's not just random. The reason being, that they put ads on the top of the listings when there are ads that satisfy the quality and bid requirement. They don't when there aren't.
Yeah its funny i was thinking the same the other day. Sometime you get these adds on the top, and sometime you dont. Dont think it really matters, i wonder how those particular adds on the top are chosen. High QS, if so why not first on the right
