Depending on the niche - do a special promotion for needy organizations. For example, we are a dog related site and we do 2-3x the sales on weeks that we are promoting a specific humane society or shelter

Another effective way to increase traffic is making use of article submission. Make efforts to write an article and then submitting to multiple article directories. I would suggest submitting at least one article to at least 400- 500 high quality article directories every week. Yeah it takes time, but it will pay off in the end result.
