Hey Have you ever questioned what is the difference between poor interviews and raving fan interviews? Ever watched on TV how Opra Winfrey, Piers Morgan or Larry King and ask why they have an edge over others? Now let me qualify this by saying you don't have to be a TV celebrity to be a great interviewer or have a talent, after all this is very learnable skill if you have the right attitude and work ethic. All you need to do is create a great audio product with any expert that delivers exceptionally high value content for your readers, subscribers and customers. Here are some great tips i can offer 1. Remember when coming into the interview its not your speaking ability or your knowledge or your vocabulary that matters after all they are the expert your drawing expertise from. 2. You will want to let the expert speak and don't cut over them when talking and as long as you prepare concise targeted questions for your interview and deliver those questions well you will be fine. 3. It very important that you show interest in what the expert is saying and comment back on some answers they have said this will engage with the expert and make them feel you are listening to them. 4. If you show some enthusiasm on the call, the interview won't become boring and stagnant or worse like an interrogation which is what you want to avoid coming across at all costs. 5. Therefore you must pay close attention to your guest speaker and make them feel special with your introduction to them at the beginning of the call and throughout the entire interview. After all who does not want to feel special and important? 6. The more you know your prospects and buyers and what their needs are and tailor your interview topic to a specific problem they are having, while getting your guest speaker to offer solutions, the far better quality the product will be. Hope this helps you out. Mark
This pretty much applies to any conversation you're having with anybody. Not just interviews. Thank you for this post.
I disagree as most people have no structure to the conversations they are having, they just go on autopilot and then wonder why the interview did not go well.Planning is key. Also do we stop and ask the needs of others? Most people don't , they assume there own need will be the same as that of their customers etc. Thanks for your comment.
Most people don't put much thought into conversation. Most people think only of themselves. Favorite topic? Themselves of course. Most people don't even think they just do. This doesn't mean there aren't people who try to listen what other side has to say. These are very universal principles I would guess. Many similar I found in a book; How to win friends and influence people by Carnegie. Rules imply for dating, conversation, selling etc. everything is almost the same. Keyword -almost. Bottom line is human communication is an art form. btw. thanks for the post.
