Top search queries in Webmaster tools

I have 8-10 terms listed in the Top search queries tool provided by Google's webmaster tools. I also have a position listed for these keywords, yet when I check Google, I am no where near the position advocated by the top search queries tool. For example, for one keyword it says that I am in 2nd position. I went through all the Google SERPS and my site is not listen anywhere. Can some one explain this to me?

They are the searches from last week so your site has probably moved positions from then.

The site wasn't positioned for these keywords last week either; I checked.

In the webmaster tool you can see your position of keywords that are really on that # but it shows the whole week. If the position is not that #, it means your site has got penalty.

Thanks IEmailer, those options are already checked:)

I still don't understand, I have 5 keywords which Google reports that I have a position in the first 50 serps, yet I am no where near those results. How accurate is this tool anyways?

Google frequently updates the position of the keywords every second. So the result is different if you check the keyword one-by-one.

It must be on their database. I think they have been shuffling the data centers where they pull-out the search results.
