Top Real Estate Blog - 150,000 Visitors/Month - But Very Low CTR

Discussion in 'Placement / Reviews / Examples' started by kenny1, Jan 14, 2016.

Hi guys. I own Homes of the Rich, a real estate blog. I started using Adsense back in 2008 and ever since then my CTR has always been super low. It has stayed around 0.5% for years. Can someone please give me advice on how to increase it?

    Thanks!

Consider turning the lowest sidebar square ad into a skyscraper ad!
Maybe ad few link units here and there.
    Check your site speed.
    Make it mobile friendly.

BTW I couldn't find a privacy policy or coockie consent!!!
    Good luck!

Largest horizontal skyscraper on top of the page.
And google's test did not show it as a mobile friendly when I ran the test few hours ago.
Otherwise your niche should be paying way better in regard of CPC...

I would break each page down into multiple pages so you have more page views
I'll also invest in custom text that describes each picture and appeals to humor/suspense or otherwise adds PERSONALITY to the site

As it stands, your site is very generic and it doesn't really draw people to click on ads

Yes, my CPC is very very good. My site is mobile friendly. I have "read more" on the posts which has tripled my page views (300,000/month to over 1,000,000/month) Thanks for the tips!

maxuthority, said it quite well - break the pages into more separate such - with unique text descriptions/images for each property.
Now most of them stay bald! Maybe hire someone or you write some short descriptions of each place (unique/rewritten)?
Also check the speed of your home page on google SE, as well as how mobile friendly is.... (this wont affect yout CPC though, but still...).

    Cheers

p.s. still did not find a privacy policy, so put one for the visitors outside the US! - at least regarding the coockies....

Maybe tell personal stories/commentaries with each item

You have to add more personality instead of just tapping into a database and showing pics.

Adsense requires page views which in turn requires DWELL TIME.

Give your visitors a reason to dwell on your pages.

In your case the top banner seems to be where it's supposed to be (and it looks great being there too), but when it comes to the algo it may treat it as "too many ads above the fold". Back in 2012 Cutts addressed it here: http://insidesearch.blogspot.com/2012/01/page-layout-algorithm-improvement.html

How is your top banner performing compared to all other ads? Maybe sticking it under that slider will get your a better CTR?

    Kind of like this:

Obviously that image ad should be responsive too and change to 300x250 for cell phone users.

How did you decide where on the page to place the ads and what sizes? I would encourage you to test out new ad sizes and locations to see if that helps with ad blindness (if you aren't already!).

Honestly, if you search online more thoroughly you'd be surprised how many high-earners are crying foul at what has happened to their earnings. It is what it is. About 6 months ago my earnings went from $XX to $XXX a day. I thought, yes, finally! only to find out it was some glitch. The earnings got reversed. But I am wondering up until today what if it was a "glitch" of my real earnings. They seem to take all kinds of nonsense into consideration to deem some of the clicks low quality and reverse the earnings.

im down to 60% of earnings since Dec 23rd, traffic is around the same... im just thinking CPC has lowered since peak holiday shopping season

it may simply be the niche you are in, less ad bidding competition at this time means lower cost per click
