I was looking at a thread about top paying keywords and the sites that people referenced listed many keywords paying $40 and more. The reality I have seen is a good keyword might average $0.40 (individual clicks for 0.20 to a little over a dollar). I have seen a few clicks in the tens of dollars but I believe an Adwords advertiser accidentally enter dollars instead of cents and I got lucky. Do you see the high paying keyword paying what these lists say they do or would you divide what they say by 100?
My keywords should bring back a max of $10-$20 a click but in reality I get between 0.2cents and $1.50. Not bad if I get quite a bit of traffic coming in..
THose lists are based on the max estimated charge to the advertiser for the keyword. They dont take into account that some days are higher then others. They dont take into account google's cut (which I believe is much more then people thing), and it doesnt take into account googles smart pricing.
My guess is 80%. Because from what I see from my adwords account, minimum bids per click is USD 0.05, and the lowest epc that I received is USD 0.01
You couldn't possibly know how much they "should" bring unless you can see how many people compete for the keywords and how much they are willing to pay (and more specifically how much they are willing to pay for AdSense ads... which is different than ads on Google search results).
I wouldn't say that much... I would guess 60-70%... this is just a guess and has no mathematical analysis to back it up. It's just that I can't believe that they would retain 80% of the earnings
There is stated "maximum bid". So, do not expect that every click is gonna pay that much. IMPO, there is more and more "trashy" sites - advertisers that trying to get traffic on they sites for a 0.05 and then, from them to real big adverts. Those are aka portals, all business directory etc... Also, max bids are usually in campaign periods - for university is stupid to pay max bids in february. Also, I cached a fiew clicks over 2$. It is really great for site(s) I run. Do not forget, also, IP of clicker - must be specific region to get max $, in specific time of campaign, specific time of day, specific advert..
