The best would probably be Search Engine Optimization. And if you have money to invest, you could consider PPC advertising on Google Adwords.
SEO is not an exact science so will take some time to get right and even then its an ongoing exercise. PPC via AdWords or similar network can work well if you invest time into setting it up correctly with the right keywords, negative keywords, bids, etc. Just be careful to measure your ROI with Adwords otherwise it might not be working for you. A very good method is simply networking. It is time consuming but if others in your industry identify you as an expert in the field then it gives your business more credibility. Press Releases are also very handy for getting word out and increasing backlinks. You can write it yourself or get someone on DP to write one for a fee. It can then be submitted to all the major PR sites a lot of which will allow you to submit for free.
My personal method of choice for promoting my site is definitely article marketing. I also do a lot of forum posting when I'm not writing and submitting articles. Lately though I've been trying to get into social marketing, and am working on Squidoo right now.
Article marketing works good, social marketing is off the hook and will bring in plenty of extra visitors... Work on your SEO and make sure you´re placing for targeted keywords relating to your industry.
