Which is best ? Say I had a generic domainname something like web.com would I get as much traffic with site.web.com or by registering a new domain www.site.com I've always gone with a specific domain name previously, but now I'm wondering if it make any difference. Would G see the keywords in a generic url. example: my-site.web.com would google pick out 'my' & 'site' as keywords. Im' sure I've read somewhere of problems with promoting sub-domains but I can't for the life of me remember what it was.
I've found another thread that covers exactly the same subject. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=11993
And if you aint got tired of reading you might as well havea look at this article Domain branding? I personally dont think it is of any use nowadays. However check google for the the word - mortgage- you will see that the top ranked sites do have their main keyword mentioned in there domainname.
I think I'll go down the subdomains route. I've found what I think will be a suitably generic root which should work well with almost any topic as a sub. And it's no hastle to piont the subdomain anywhere I want in the dns.
I also use subdomains. It is much easier just creating your subdomain and naming it whatever you want, than ending up registering some crazy domain like www.credit-consolidation-network-ags123.com because everything else is already registered
