Great! I'm glad that these tips help out.. I forgot to mention with No.1 as well that is very important to have your keywords in your actual domain name or address. Also in your file names and folders like /keyword/your-main-page-keywords.html These standard On-Page techniques are the basis for good page optimization. Then you need the Backlinks with the keywords as 'Anchor Text'..
make a good and very informative content so that once the visitors have been to your website they keeps coming back, forum posting is another good source of backlinks and article submission.
It is important to note about the "nofollow" when getting new links for link building. However even if its a "nofollow" link, it might still be useful if it provide good traffic. New links are critical only if its a quality link that provide good PR juice or web traffic Cheers!
Its not "mandatory" - but, the google webmaster guidelines suggest that you crate a sitemap and get it added to your google webmaster tools. There is a big difference in how well google can index large and small sites. Small sites might not need a site map. But when you start getting 500,000+ pages, it really helps to have a site map. Google is good at indexing a site, but its not perfect. I have seen forums with over 1,000,000 threads, but only have 20,000 pages indexed with google. Where are the other 980,000 pages? I dont know and neither does google. That is where a sitemap comes in. Its to help google find the pages that it might have missed during its deep crawl.
Really basic stuff. And the most important of all of those - as probably everyone here knows are those back links that you have to build.
Hey there 1) Use not more than 1 keyword per page (organic seo) 2) Put your keyword in the first 90 characters 3) Use your keyword as the filename of your main image They works a lot!
Agree'd It would probably be best to link pages which relate to what the page you are on is about. For example, if you are on an SEO page about Caravans, you would want to link to pages relating to caravans in the footer. It would be no help having a page about caravans and linking to other pages which have no relation.
A great post. Thanks for the advice. What about getting labeling your images? That should be high on the list. I use Google image search all the time to (visually) find what I am looking for. Sometime it's better than the regular search engines. I bet this will pick up in the future and this will be great SEO tactic.
Points 6-10 should all be ... get more links. The harsh truth is that onsite optimization is worth very little these days. I'm not saying don't do it, just don't except a lot from it. I've seen some sites with almost no onsite optimization get right to the top of Google. This is because it has lots of relevant keyword links pointing to it. The reality is, it's all about the links. How do you get these links? Google wants you to acquire these links naturally. This means when other sites discover yours, and like it so much that they can't help from giving it a link on their site. The question remains, however, how will all these generous webmasters find your great site (filled with great content)? Most SEO experts say: "Build great content and they will come (and link to it)." The fact is, you have to be actively out there promoting your site. Having a great site with great content is like having a really, really great 1-800 number. You have to do everything you can to get links (one-way, two-way, three-way), and to get your site noticed.
