Top 3,000 Alexa...any servers to recommend?

    Hi,

I have a website in top 3,000 in Alexa.

    6.3 million uniques/month
    106 million pageviews/month

    Paying $30,000/month in bandwidth fees.

Any servers to recommend? (hopefully one that handles high bandwidth without significantly raising the costs)

We're just trying to reduce our bandwidth costs as much as possible.

    Thanks.

It would help if we had an idea of how much space and bandwidth you need...

    Hi,

It also depends on what kind of type of site this is and what your major bottlenecks are.

First of all you should be thinking servers not a server as sooner or later you would be able to able to buy a more powerful server or more bandwidth. (well you could but it wouldn't be cost effective).

Do you use php, java, etc?
Do you use databases mysql, oracle, Postgres?

Since you say your bandwidth fees are so large and yet your only averaging around 40hits/s I'd say your running some kind of download/streaming site.

My advice in that case would be to look at some of the Content Delivery Networks and see if it can work with your application.

If not I think you'd be best grabbing a few cheap boxes $250/m for 100mb unmetered and distributing your load over those boxes. Run your actual front end on some more powerful boxes.

    Have a look at http://www.choopa.com/

They are good at providing high quality bandwidth amounts.

They can provide upto 1GBPS connections for a resonable cost.
