Thanks for the tips the most important mistakes I think is targeting the wrong keywords and lack of keywords in the content
Reading all the posts from the intial topic and see some really interesting questions and answers. I want to add to the last post regarding flash and images. It is really important that all understand how technology is changing. Their are methods out there now that can be used to make flash websites easy to crawl for SE and also image replacement. I was giving a site a face lift the other day and noticed that the navigation was all tweaked to fool the browser that it was text when in fact it was images. Image replacement is clever and an example would be creating navigation with a font that is none standard, the font gets stored on the webserver in question and gets pulled to the visitor using javascript. This removed the need for the site having images and even using alt tags in certain scenerios. Hope this added to the topic. KEEP UP WITH TECHNOLOGY as its changing and can even miss the attention of pro web designers.
A lot of good tips here! I think another SEO-mistake is to focus on your own website only. Study the competition (top 10 listing) well and discover why they are listed that high. It's basically all the information you need to start ranking higher. There are nice tools to use for that purpose!
a good read to those who are starting in the SEO business like me. There is more to optimize and its infinite i suppose
