Excellent post.

I don't believe there is any real "penalty" for posting duplicate content, it just reaches a point where there is no great SEO benefit. If there were a penalty the big news sites couldn't pull the way they do. Nearly all of their content is duplicated content.

That said, SEO benefits are not the only benefits to be gained from a sustained and consistent marketing program. Any marketing program. I want every single article I have out there to get "stolen" and added to as many sites as possible. As my grand dad used to say "the more hooks you have in the water the more fish you're apt to catch".

The more resource box links you have out there with your links in them the more likely you are to end up with traffic from it on your site.

I don't see a time where article marketing will ever go out of style. This here internet thingy survives on content and links, the two cornerstones of article marketing.

Anyway, just my thoughts.

You said my point. The penalty is when you do it in your blogs or some other site. Article directory in my opinion are looked upon by google in same way as normal link directories. If google thought that link directories are some site, it would be boxed instantly but when it comes across the directories...it knows wat are they and how the site is used by people. So IMHO article directories are never penalised for publishing duplicate articles.

There are two different issues.

1. Google rarely penalizes.

2. Google does however filter.

Duplicate content is filtered in several different ways.

Guys..if you KNOW what google does, you would realize that dupe content will index content differently, and placing fresh,UNIQUE content on your own site is one option..or placing on a different site (article directory) is another...
Aside from the backlink, what do you expect to gain? You can get much better IBL's without writing articles on article sites...
Think about it...if you go rip Wiki etc for content and reprint on your site, will that content rank for the kw...? Anywhere in the top 5 PAGES of google?...
prob not without alot of strong IBL building. but if you wrote a UNIQUE article for a kw or KW phrase and put it on YOUR SITE, and point a few ibl's, you will rank.

 

Thats where the article marketing kicks in. Placing your keyword phrases in title of article and putting a link in the article will get you amazing backlinks.

Article directories are mostly good for getting traffic and not for links. They are good as they offer credentials or links of works that can be showsn to the clients by a freelancer writer

 

Content syndication is a a major reason to submit to directories like EzineArticles.

 

Article marketing is definitely not dead and is the foundation for many of my sites being on the first page of google. When I create one article, I submit to 10 other sites and bookmark through another 10. In total I have 20 links off of one article. Just a few articles is all it takes to get good SE rankings.
