Try targeting phrases that people are actually searching for.

Hooperman is right on. It doesn't matter if you rank number one for "ice cube stand" in Alaska. WHO CARES?

You have to do keyword research and find out what terms are being searched for. If you can't afford the tools like SEO Elite or IBP right now listen up - I am going to give you a couple of freebies to help you spy on your competition.

    dnscoop.com

All you have to do is put in urls.

The first one will give you the top 100 keywords a site is indexed for.

My advice is to target your keywords with rich content. For instance, if I my website was about course fishing, you could write content about carp fishing, pole fishing, pike fishing and so fourth. If you concentrate on one subject at a time, you will find your traffic will increase.

Try to use other keywords that have more 1,000 searches monthly.

Look at your awstats and see which ones give you traffic. Check to see if there worth targeting then target them.

Nichebot gives you how many times the keyword is searched for, as well as how many competitors there are for it. It also lets you analyze the top 10 websites to see how easy it will be to rank in them. Check my signature.
