The list is ranked by # of backlinks picked up by Google, Yahoo and MSN for over 200 sites submitted via our online directory submission system http://www.4th-media.com/submission/ in last 45 days.

The system automatically logs submissions and track approvals to maintain a list of active directories ranked by approval rates. The quality of submission automatically gets better and better over time.

Many SEO-frinedly directories use "Next Page" (going 20 pages and more) navigation and new links are appended to the last page. Those kind of approved links will never be picked up by search engines, and have no values for backlinks.

we've tracked about 200 directories so, and dropped about 60 directories which are either inactive or have turned paid directories. We've been adding new directories to the list. The goal is to track most of free directories.

Wow, that is pretty cool to end up on top. I am absolutely amazed at the growth spirt our little directory is experiencing. We are likely going to write our own custom script as we outgrow the limitations of the one we are using currently.

Thank you for the boost in confidence with this little post! Keep those submissions coming.

And let's hope that these great directories won't someday became a directory full of snobbish editors like what happened to those (so-called) BIG directories out there.

Keep on getting new links and please be humble eventhough you might one day be very very big. And pls do not follow the footsteps of those directories. Don't they know what makes them big at the first place?

It's easy to forget what lift you up when you are at the top

Thank you for that. We have been working really hard at improving on our directory and it is growing faster than I ever imagined.

Some of the things we have done include fixing the script so that the search actually works correctly. What I mean is it is now accurate, more accurate anyway. Keyword searches used to display pretty much everything in the directory. Also the search was ridiculously slow. We have fixed that and it is fast as well. Just some cleaning up of the code.

We have also added a feature that checks for 404's, dead sites, etc. What happens is the directory is always spidering sites that are listed to see if they are actually alive. If they are not, after a week the script will remove them from the directory. However, they are not deleted. They are held in a queue and remain in our database for 2 months. If after 2 months they are still 404, they are deleted.

Now, assuming you listed your email when you listed your site two things will happen.

    1. If your site is de-listed as 404, you are sent an emailing telling you this.
    2. If your site is deleted, you are also sent an email.

This way you have the opportunity to correct any problems, or re-list your site if necessary. Also, we keep the directory fresh and CLEAN!

Ok, so as I mentioned, we now offer you the ability to list your email when you list your site. This serves a few purposes. One, you get a notification when your site is either listed or rejected. And, if there is every a reason the site is de-listed you are also notified. We have no intentions of doing anything else with your email, save from a possible future opt-in update service or newsletter. It is important to note that when your site is rejected, the rejection email lists possible reasons for the rejection and a link to re-list your site. Also for those interested in marketing their services we do sell text adverts in the notification emails. We have two spots open normally. One is currently filled.

We also added a category listing count to the script. The script automatically recalculates the category count at 4 hour intervals making sure any new listings are included 6 times daily.

Today we added a new feature that will take care of case problems. We like to have descriptions and titles begin with an upper case letter. Those that do not were either manually edited or rejected. Now the script will scan the listings and if someone lists a title in all lower case, the first letter of their title/description will be changed automagically to an upper case letter.

Now there are those sites like, "eHarmony" or "iPod" that have proper case/spelling using a lower case letter. The script is inteligent enough to recognize this and will look for lower/upper in the title/description and if it sees something like "iPod", it will leave it alone.

We also offer Premium listings now. For only a BUCK, yes 1 Dollar ($1.00) you can get a premium listing that stands out above all other listings, offers a link for your title and URL, is highlighted in color, and is listed above all other basic listings. Again, it is currently a buck, but will probably go up to $5 when we hit 10,000 listings, and $10 when we hit 20,000 listings. At a buck it is a great deal, but sucks for us as PayPal takes 34 cents of every buck since it is such a low amount.

We are offering site wide text links in our footer for $20/mo. and have a few people already doing this. We are also offering site advert listings like you see on the home page called "Sponsored Links". There are typically no more than 5 listings in this group.

I am also pleased to announce we went from a PR4 to a PR5 in the last update. I am confident we will be at PR7 by years end assuming we keep up the work we are doing, and continue to grow.

If anyone has any suggestions or comments, feel free to PM me.
